As Chief Operating Officer (COO) at Cirque du Soleil, Charles is responsible for Cirque du Soleil's overall business lines including touring shows, resident shows and merchandising activities. He sees to the priorities and long-term planning of the company’s main two divisions, including the Touring Show Division which operated in over 200 different markets on 5 continents, and the Resident Show Division based in Las Vegas and Orlando with 9 permanent shows. He oversees the sales and Marketing function so as secure and growth Cirque’s ticket sales averaging over 11 million tickets yearly. Charles also interfaces with the company’s key partners such as MGM International, Disney, Fuji Television, IMX, AEG and multiples promoters worldwide. Charles also manages sectors including Creation operations and Show quality, Finances, Marketing, Human Resources, Public Affairs, Information Technology and Sponsorship.Charles’ previous position at Cirque du Soleil include Senior Vice-President, Touring Shows Division, where his responsibilities were focused on managing Cirque’s portfolio of touring shows in a way of optimizing the Division’s P&L while respecting the creative content and drive of the company.
He also held other positions at Cirque including Vice-President of Procurement, Building Services & Workshops, encompassing the establishment of a corporate wide procurement function, including the introduction of industry best practices for the acquisition of goods and services totalling over $500 million per year. In this position he managed Cirque’s 400 employee costumes and props workshops in Montreal and Hong Kong. Finally he was responsible for managing Cirque’s Buildings and real estate activities along with a set of internal of half a dozen services from logistics to security.
He also held the position of Director of New Venture Development where he was responsible for the development of Cirque’s new destination complex projects.
Prior to joining Cirque in 1999, Charles held a senior management position at Deloitte Consulting, where he advised various telecommunications, manufacturing and high-tech companies, particularly with respect to managing major corporate transformation projects in Europe, Asia and Canada.
Before Deloitte, Charles worked as an international trade development advisor for the Government of Canada.
Charles has started his career as a computer analyst for an internet company.Charles Décarie graduated from the Université de Montréal with a degree in computer science and holds an MBA from Laval University in Quebec City.Charles chairs Cirque du Soleil's Management Committee. He is a member of the Board of Directors of the École de Dance Contemporaine de Montréal. He also sits on the Board of Cirque Éloize.
