Diversity and Leadership Lunch: "Leading with Courage: Rising Above the Impossible"

Join us for an inspiring conversation that may challenge your perceptions of ability, its impact on how we build an inclusive culture and workforce, and the life-changing technology developed from diverse experiences.

Nicky Abdinor will lay the foundation of the discussion with her insightful and inspiring personal story. Nicky is a registered clinical psychologist and founder of the non-profit Nicky’s Drive, an organization that aims to assist people with disabilities in South Africa to be mobile and independent through the funding of car adaptations. She is an advocate for mobility and independence and has a passion for challenging our perceptions about what is possible.

Nicky was born without arms and with shortened legs, a physical disability that had no medical explanation. She believes supportive parents, access to mainstream education, and a determined personality helped her to overcome her physical limitations to achieve independence. Her outlook on life enables her to serve as an agent of change around the world and she has a gift to motivate others to think differently about their situation. She believes, “It’s not our situation, but how we think about our situation that determines our emotional well-being. We should not ignore what is wrong, but focus more on what is right.“

In addition, technology has made a significant impact on Nicky’s mobility, independence, and success. She is a firm believer that, with the right mindset and the development of skills in adaptibility, perseverence, and resilience, innovation and change can be used to our advantage. Nicky will share her insights and discoveries from working with companies on to make disability – through an emphasis on employee wellness and the use of technology – work in the workplace.

Nicky’s talk will be followed by a panel discussion with SAP Ariba Live attendees and subject matter experts. The panelists will explore the impact that building an inclusive workforce and culture has on customers, markets, and innovation.

This lunch discussion will be facilitated by Julie Gerdeman, SVP Ariba Payables & Financing.
