Power Breaks at e'ffect: The Ultimate Innovation Experience Event - SAP Effect Sydney 2019
Highlights of Power Breaks at e'ffect

During e’ffect we hosted 4 separate opportunities to meet with the workforce of the future.  We asked 4 of our award winning students from our Young ICT Explorers community to come along and showcase their innovations during 4 dedicated Power Break sessions.

These 15 minute sessions were oversubscribed, with standing room only.  The students gave an insight into how they think whilst they pitched their creative project ideas to the audience.  We then opened up to an interactive Q&A session where delegates were invited to ask questions and the students could tap into their knowledge.

This exchange of knowledge was invaluable with highlights including:

Blake Garrett, a former student but now current business owner of School Bytes.  Blake shared his cloud-based administration solution which provides schools with tools they need to operate smoothly and efficiently, particularly in aspects of online payments and parent communication.  The system is now in use at over 350 NSW government schools and this year alone facilitated $40 million dollars in online payments for schools.

Callum Predavec shared his planetary transfer calculator – the Google Maps for space!  Showing live calculations if you wanted to fly from earth to Mars, Callum entertained us with his magical explanation of how this PTC simulates the solar system, showing well-known major bodies with precise rea-time positioning. It can also calculate propagation delay due to the absolute speed of light between planets and moons.

Aiden Fuller, NSW Winner in 2018, demonstrated his Arduino remote terminal system which can be accessed via SMS messages.  Aiden explained how this type of device would benefit the hire industrial machinery.  The terminal enables them to calculate a bill for the amount of hours the machine has operated for a given period of time.  The device is also easily found via SMS if it goes missing.

Rory Wade, the Grand Final Winner of 2018, showcased his innovative new way of distilling alcohol.  Rory’s solution, SpiritTrail, is a modern solution that removes the need for the distiller to be constantly monitoring and adjusting its physical attributes. He demonstrated how this is achieved through an interactive web application, enabling real-time data analysis and micro-automation through a network of specialised stackable sensors.
