As the CIO of SAP, Juergen Mueller is responsible for exploring new markets and introducing disruptive technologies and unconventional ideas, while cultivating an innovation-friendly environment throughout SAP. 

 

In his role, Juergen heads the SAP Innovation Center Network (ICN) – a unit creating new growth opportunities for SAP by pioneering new markets and disruptive technologies. The ICN builds innovative solutions in the fields of machine learning, blockchain, and conversational AI and designs the future of work with software for the purpose-led enterprise. The ICN also drives key research programs and collaborations with leading research institutes, as well as market exploration with key customers and co-innovation partners.

 

Juergen is also responsible for SAP.iO – a company-wide program to foster innovation. It provides a platform, funding, and guidance to SAP’s entrepreneurial employees. SAP.iO works hand in hand with its external-facing counterpart, which is focused on seed-stage strategic investments in the startup ecosystem and supporting early-stage startups through accelerators.

 

Further, as managing director of SAP Labs Berlin, Juergen drives SAP’s innovation footprint in the region of Greater Berlin through tighter collaboration with universities, the public sector, startups, design communities, and innovation centers of various companies. 

 

Juergen reports to Bernd Leukert, SAP Executive Board member for Products & Innovations, and works closely with SAP CEO Bill McDermott to drive the company’s thought leadership and innovation agenda.

 

Before joining SAP in September 2013, Juergen was co-representative of Professor Hasso Plattner's research chair at the Hasso Plattner Institute in Potsdam, Germany. In addition to numerous teaching activities, Juergen contributed to several research projects in the area of in-memory data management. He finished his PhD in IT systems engineering under the supervision of Professor Hasso Plattner.
