Philipp Herzig is Chief AI Officer and Chief Technology Officer of SAP SE. In this role, Herzig leads SAP’s technology strategy, research, innovation, corporate development, technology ecosystem, startup engagement, and incubation including Business AI and Sustainability. In addition to AI and sustainability as major incubation topics, the Chief Technology Office also focuses on topics such as quantum computing.
Before being appointed the Chief Technology Officer of SAP, Herzig significantly shaped the company’s footprint in Business AI since the beginning of 2024, being globally responsible for the design, engineering, go-to-market, marketing, and enablement for AI innovations. Herzig built the successful move into the generative AI era on his extensive experience and successes in bringing SAP’s product portfolio together in one seamlessly integrated experience for customers in the years prior. During that time, his responsibilities ranged from driving SAP product integration efforts across the portfolio, to harmonizing SAP’s user and mobile experience, and delivering cross-product innovation.
Herzig started his career at SAP in 2009 as a working student. Since then, he has held various positions as software engineer, architect, product owner, and engineering leader at the SAP Innovation Center Potsdam. He led teams in industry areas such as Real Estate and Health and product areas such as SAP CPQ. During his tenure at SAP, Herzig focused on cloud-native application engineering, distributed systems, continuous integration and delivery, and fostering a culture of engineering excellence. Furthermore, Herzig is the executive sponsor of the Business Women Network chapter Berlin and Potsdam. He was included on Capital’s 40 Under 40, Handelsblatt Vordenker:innen, and Wirtschaftswoche 30 until 2030 lists in 2024. Herzig is based in Potsdam, Germany, and holds a PhD in computer science from Dresden University of Technology in Germany.
